The Melting Snowman

Whether you have snow on the ground or not, you can conduct a melting snowman experiment from the comfort of your kitchen!

Materials:
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Water
  • Googly eyes
  • Orange foam sheet or colorful sequins
  • Eyedropper or spoons
  • Baking dish
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Food coloring (optional)
Directions:
  1. Pour a cup of baking soda into a baking dish. Slowly add small amounts of water to the baking soda and mix. It needs to form a pliable dough. Add some glitter for a magical effect.
  2. Roll the dough into round balls that will make your snowman.
  3. Give your snowman a face. Use googly eyes and either orange foam sheet or sequins for the nose. Then you can freeze your snowman for a few hours or continue to the next step.
  4. Add a few drops of food coloring to a quarter cup of white vinegar. Use droppers or a spoon to pour vinegar onto the snowman. Watch your child’s wonder as the snowman begins to melt!
