Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the questions that families ask us most often!

What safety precautions does Goddard have in place to keep my child safe?

You can trust that your child is safe while at Goddard. Faculty are trained to swiftly react and follow emergency protocols and procedures. All staff members are first aid and CPR certified and trained in child abuse awareness and prevention. Some of the security measures we have include controlled entry systems, surveillance cameras on the playgrounds, stringent visitor policies and gate alarms. We conduct monthly fire drills and quarterly emergency drills.

How do your Schools handle food allergies?

Food and snack selections are chosen on a classroom basis taking individual allergies into consideration. We alert families if there are allergies in their child’s classroom, so they don’t pack anything containing the allergen. Teachers are trained in awareness of food allergies and how to administer epinephrine. If food is brought into School for birthday celebrations, it cannot be home made and needs to be in original packaging to ensure it’s safe to serve.

Does my child need to be vaccinated to attend The Goddard School®?

Contact your local Goddard School to inquire about vaccinations. There are children who can attend Goddard if they aren’t vaccinated based on medical conditions or sincerely held religious belief exemptions. Please note, not all exemptions are recognized in every state. To ensure the health and safety of everyone, if an outbreak occurs and a child has not been vaccinated, they will be asked to stay at home.

How will you communicate with me about my child?

You are always welcome to call during the day. You will receive a daily activity report that highlights what your child did. The report includes how long your child napped, how much lunch your child ate, number of diapers changed or potty training progress, milestone development and more. We use a proprietary app that includes all of this information as well as photos, videos and notes about special moments of your child’s day.

Do you have a mobile app for easy communication?

Yes! Our proprietary app, Goddard Family Hub, is a convenient way to find out about your child’s progress and daily activities.  Every day we share pictures and updates about your child, from what they’ve eaten to diaper changes and all the exciting things they’ve learned. You can download the Goddard Family Hub app in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

How do you report on my child's progress?

Teachers track your child’s progress from day one in our proprietary app. They follow three stages: assessment, analysis and action. During assessment, teachers observe and collect data using COR Advantage, developmental screeners and other state-required measurement tools. In the analysis phase, they reflect on the data collected, which leads to action, where they set learning goals for each child and adjust lessons as necessary. You’ll receive daily, weekly and monthly updates about your child.

How can I schedule a parent-teacher conference?

Parent-teacher conferences take place at different times throughout the year. Schools usually plan at least two, but you can always contact your School to schedule a conference as needed.

What is Wonder of Learning®?

Wonder of Learning is the most innovative and well-rounded early childhood education program on the market. It encourages children to follow their natural curiosity, find their own answers and then ask more questions because that’s how real education takes root. Instead of being taught at, children experience immersive, hands-on learning that puts them in charge with expert teachers acting as guides along the way. Our curriculum is individualized, allowing each child to discover their own interests, take risks, make mistakes and try again. Along with academics, children learn confidence, resiliency and kindness, becoming both well-rounded humans and learners.

Discover Wonder of Learning

What is inquiry-based learning?

Inquiry-based learning starts with curiosity, something children have in abundance! Between the ages of two and five, kids ask an average of 40,000 questions. Inquiry-based learning lets them ask those questions then challenges them to ask more. It’s a child-led approach that puts children (mostly) in charge of their learning journey. They get to explore what piques their curiosity, like garbage trucks or farm animals, while teachers act as guides, tailoring lessons to each child’s interest. For example, an inquiry into “What does the sun do?” may lead to exploring light and shadows, heat and outer space or evolve into questions about gardening. Plus, our program is deeply rooted in play-based learning, so kids get to have fun and enjoy the magic of childhood. They get messy, make mistakes and develop meaningful friendships in a safe, nurturing environment built with their best interests at heart.

What does child-led learning mean?

Child-led learning puts children in charge. Well, mostly. It’s not a free-for-all with no structure or routine. It’s an immersive, play-based experience that allows children to discover their interests and expand their knowledge. Instead of being taught at or handed countless worksheets, kids explore with teachers by their side. Teachers observe and tailor lessons to each child’s unique interests, needs and pace. There are endless possibilities and many ways to get to an answer. This approach not only makes learning fun but builds confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning.

How is the Goddard School different than other traditional daycare centers?

With so many childcare options these days, it’s hard to keep everything straight. Goddard shares some similarities with other schools, but what makes us stand out is our innovative curriculum, parent community, expert teachers and children’s experience.

  • Our proprietary curriculum is child-led and teacher guided, and it’s centered around children’s natural curiosity. Our curriculum encourages them to ask questions, empowers them to find their own answers and challenges them to ask more questions because that’s how real learning happens. We don’t pigeon-hole kids into only one right way to do things. They get to take risks, make mistakes and get messy with teachers by their side. The goal? Well-rounded humans and learners.
  • The parent community, Our Goddard Village, is something we’re incredibly proud of. It started because we know that modern day parenting feels more isolated than ever, and it’s not supposed to be that way. Families need a supportive community that nurtures connection, expertise and a sense of belonging, which Goddard strives to provide.
  • Goddard School teachers are experts in early childhood education and development. They are on the floor with your little ones, engaged in learning all day. They notice the small things: the quiet bravery of trying something new, the joy of a first friendship, the way your child lights up when they feel understood. They’re there for the big milestones and the everyday moments that matter just as much. They partner with families, celebrating your child’s wins, helping them through challenges and nurturing empathy, confidence and curiosity that lasts a lifetime. They are the heart behind every day at Goddard.
  • Your child’s experience is at the core of what we do. It’s why we developed a proprietary curriculum that can be personalized to each child, with built-in assessment tools to monitor their individual strength and progress. It’s why we have some of the highest standards in health and safety, so children are healthy and protected in our care (with fewer sick days for the whole family!). It’s why Our Goddard Village began because caring for children shouldn’t be done in isolation. And when children feel like they belong, so do their families.

What does a typical day look like in a Goddard School?

In each classroom, we provide hands-on, child-centered learning experiences that vary based on the children’s levels of development. Teachers help children grow into happy, healthy, intelligent little humans who are ready to take on the world around them.

For infants, we follow the care schedule set by your family and utilize both curriculum and personal attention to connect with and expand on your little one’s individual development. Our teachers also incorporate songs, finger play, books, sensory and physical exploration each day.

Our busy toddlers flex their independence as they learn to walk, talk and safely explore the world around them. Their curiosity and interests drive the classroom structure.

In our Preschool and Pre-K classrooms, we add more school preparation and readiness by focusing on academic skills as well as interpersonal and collaboration skills. Teachers support children as they investigate the world around them. Children learn how to ask and answer questions, work with others, navigate social situations and understand and communicate their own thoughts and feelings.

Our teachers expertly create supportive classrooms for all children to safely learn and test new social, academic and physical skills throughout a familiar routine that includes morning and afternoon snack, lunch, naptime, exploration, small and large group experiences and outdoor play.

What supplies do I need to provide?

Please provide any necessary personal care items for your little one, like diapers, wipes, two full changes of clothing and naptime bedding. For infants, please supply a crib sheet. For toddlers and older children please bring a blanket and/or sleeping bag. Many of our locations also ask that you pack lunch for your child each day. All items should be labeled with your child’s first and last name. We offer an exclusive discount with a popular label company for enrolled families to help make the process easier! Please contact your local School for additional details.

Do children go outside every day?

As long as the weather permits, children play outside every day! The Goddard School playgrounds are extensions of the classrooms, and teachers are great at planning playtime, nature walks, picnics and other outdoor learning opportunities.
