Assistant Teacher

The Assistant Teacher responsibilities include:

• Establish and maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing learning environment
• Understanding and supporting the education program using “learning through play” philosophy
• keeping children within sight and sound supervision at all times
• changing children’s diapers and/or assist in toileting (where necessary)
• Ensure that children are always within state ratio requirements
• Advance children’s physical and intellectual competence
• Support each child’s social and emotional development and provide positive guidance
• Establish positive and effective family relations
• Ensure an effective program, responsive to children’s needs
• Maintain professional commitment

Qualifications:

An assistant teacher must meet one of the following educational requirements:
• A Bachelor’s degree or a CDA in early childhood education preferred/OR;
• At least 20 semester credits or 30 quarter credits in early childhood education/OR;
• At least one full year prior teaching experience in a licensed/certified preschool setting required/OR;
• At least 10 semester credits or 15 quarter credits in early childhood education AND at least 6 full months of experience in a licensed/certified preschool setting required/OR;
• Documentation of attaining at least step 8 in Oregon registry;
