Meet Sean & Whitney Owner

Sean and Whitney are the Owners of the Goddard School located in Grand Rapids (Knapp's Corner). Whitney graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Hospitality Business and before opening the Goddard School had a career in Sales and Event Management for Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park and the JW Marriott Grand Rapids. Sean graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Business Management and worked in Outside Sales for a traffic control company. As parents of 8 year-old daughter, Eila, and 4 year-old, Iris, Sean and Whitney understand the importance of creating a safe, nurturing environment and want the Goddard School to be a child's home away from home. Both Sean and Whitney were born and raised in the Grand Rapids area and look forward to giving back to the community by educating it's future leaders. Sean and Whitney look forward to welcoming you to the school and introducing your family to the amazing faculty!

From infants and toddlers to pre-K, kindergarten and beyond, our classrooms are designed specifically with your little one’s needs in mind.

Infant

6 w - 12 m

In the Infant program, our teachers provide your baby with all the cuddles and care they need with opportunities to begin exploring the world around them.

Toddlers

12 - 24 m

As your little one rapidly develops physically and cognitively, our Toddler classroom is where their natural curiosity is fostered and their budding skills are nurtured.

Twos

2 - 3 yrs

In the Twos classroom, experienced, caring teachers guide your child through playful exploration, helping navigate big emotions while providing hands-on learning experiences that nurture their innate curiosity.

Bridge

2.5 - 3.5 yrs

As your child continues to gain independence, build self-care skills and learn more about themselves, the Bridge classroom provides the support they need to thrive in a preschool setting.

Preschool

3 - 4 yrs

In our Preschool classroom, your child starts their journey into a cooperative learning environment where they can discover interests and learn in a more structured setting.

Pre-K

4 - 5 yrs

As your child prepares for Kindergarten, our Pre-K classroom offers exciting opportunities to develop important skills, make new friends and explore the world around them.

It's invaluable to have the owners have their own children in the school. We trust them completely during COVID because it's their children too -- they're the first ones to react to changes in CDC guidance, mask policies, etc. out of our friends' child care providers.

The focus on safety during this pandemic has been so important for us. Knowing that the school abides by the rules established by the Health department and communicates with parents about it, this alone gives us peace of mind. The curriculum and teachers have never been an issue, the buy-in was immediate. Seeing how excited our child gets when it’s time to go to school is remarkable.

Caliber of teachers, variety of content, change in activities and materials keeps my kids engaged. Consistent positive messaging to my kids that they can learn how to manage emotions, behavior choices, etc. Frankly, the teachers do better with this at school than I do at home some days!

We’ve been incredibly thankful to have our daughter at this Goddard. The love and care for the kids, and for the staff is felt throughout. Everything feels personal and individualized to each student. Communicate from both teachers and the school overall is excellent. Facilities are also impeccable! Owners are always listening and looking for opportunities to improve. It’s far exceeded our expectations.

We love the environment, the classrooms and especially the teachers and assistant teachers. Our son has adapted very well and is enjoying learning from the staff at The Goddard School.
