Our Goddard School Teachers

Ms. Shermeen and Mr. Akbar, as the children call them, are the on-site owners of The Goddard School of Kyle, a private preschool serving families across Kyle, Buda, and south Austin, including Plum Creek, 6 Creeks, and Anthem. Parents to two young boys, they know firsthand how much the earliest years shape everything, and how much it matters that a child's school feel like a second home. Ms. Shermeen leads the day-to-day. A Houston native and Emory grad, she came to early education after a startup career. Her rule: every child should feel loved, safe, and learning, every day. Mornings open with a chorus of "Ms. Shermeen!" and tight hugs. Raised in nearby Seguin and in San Antonio, Akbar studied education policy at Harvard and built Goddard on early childhood research: a screen-free environment, a daily Spanish program, and classrooms grounded in how young children learn. Outside the school, they volunteer with Boy Scouts and are raising their boys to bleed Spurs' silver and black.

Hi, I’m Emiley, and I’m proud to serve as the Director at The Goddard School of Kyle, TX. I focus on building a supportive school where children thrive, staff feel valued, and families are true partners. With a decade in early childhood education, I’ve grown from teacher to Director, mentoring educators and guiding programs that enrich learning and growth. The Goddard School is special to me not only as my workplace but as a parent. Two of my children are proud graduates. Seeing them thrive through our curriculum showed me firsthand the difference a high-quality preschool education makes. That experience continues to inspire my work every day, reminding me that family and community are at the heart of everything I do. I’m certified in Conscious Discipline®, a nationally recognized program that helps children develop self-regulation, resilience, and healthy relationships. I’m also a wife and proud mom of four, active in the Wallace Middle School PTA, and a Texas Storm Cheer mom.
