Root for Earth

18 billion pounds of plastic waste ends up in the ocean every year – that is the equivalent of 3.6 million rhinos!

Rhinos don’t belong in the ocean, and neither does plastic. We’re committed to teaching children about their impact on the world. Click here for realistic tips for busy families!

ROOT FOR EARTH: RECYCLEDWorm Boy

Preschoolers are collecting single-use plastics that are used in their Schools. Since children learn best through experience, this activity allows them to see firsthand just how many plastics are used and discarded on a regular basis. It also helps them understand the impact they have on the planet while giving them the opportunity to brainstorm ways to cut down on the amount of plastics they use.

UPCYCLING CHALLENGE
Children and teachers will stretch their imaginations and use their single-use plastic collection to create something entirely new to compete in the Upcycling Challenge. For more information, and to vote for your favorite creation, visit the official Goddard School Facebook page from April 22 to April 26. The winner will be announced on April 29.

TOGETHER, WE ARE SAVING NEARLY 4 MILLION WATTS OF ENERGY
On Earth Day, at 10:00 AM in each time zone, Goddard Schools will go dark by turning off all non-essential lighting for one hour. This signature initiative will save nearly 4 million watts of energy!

RECYCLED RUNWAY FASHION SHOW
At many Goddard Schools throughout the country, preschoolers will be creating their very own clothing using recycled materials. The children will showcase their finest ‘recycle-wear’ for their families and the community during a runway fashion show.
