Stay Healthy this Fall

Back-to-school season is an exciting time, but it can also be a time of sniffles and sick days. Don’t worry! We’ve got some great tips to help you keep your family healthy all year long.

Squeaky Clean

Hand washing is one of the best ways to help prevent the spread of germs. Some children will see it as a chore, so make hand washing fun with some of the following activities:

  • Sing the alphabet song together for a good 20-second scrub.
  • Fill up a container with water, soap and sponges for some sensory play.
  • Use soap that comes in different colors and try to guess the color of the suds.
  • Sprinkle some glitter on your child’s hands and then get them to scrub off the glitter germs!

Bedtime Bliss

Sleep is a major contributor to health, no matter your age. Make sure your little ones get lots of rest. According to The American Academy of Sleep Medicine, sleep needs for children change based on their age.

  • Infants (ages 4 – 12 months) need 12-16 hours of sleep a day, including naps
  • Toddlers (ages 1 – 2 years) need 11 – 14 hours of sleep a day, including naps
  • Preschoolers (ages 3 – 5 years) need 10 – 13 hours of sleep a day, including naps
  • Gradeschoolers (ages 6 – 12 years old) need 9 – 12 hours a day

Well-Balanced Meals

Eating balanced meals is a great way to help keep your family healthy all year long. If you’re feeling overwhelmed about what to pack for your little ones, here are a few ideas:

  • Nut/seed butter and jelly sandwich — a classic
  • Veggie and cheese roll ups — try rolling out bread of your choice and using cream cheese to change things up
  • DIY tacos — tortilla strips, beans, rice, shredded cheese
  • Mini charcuterie — cheese, fruit, veggies, hard-boiled eggs, crackers — the sky’s the limit

Chia Seed Pudding Recipe

For a nutritious meal or tasty snack, make your own chia seed pudding. Depending on your child’s age, ask them to help you make it!
