Assistant Teacher - Full Time

Position Description
The person selected for this position will be responsible for assisting the Director and the Head Teachers in the general supervision and management of the program.
Educational Qualifications
The person selected for this position must be a high school graduate of at least 17 years of age and have 2 years education or experience in child development. This person must have a warm and friendly personality, to be sensitive to the needs of others, be able to relate well to children and adults, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with school policy. This person must also meet the requirements set forth by the licensing agencies.
Continuing Education Units (CEU)
All teacher’s assistants are responsible to obtain a minimum of 10 CEU’s per year. This is at the expensive of the teacher’s assistant and mandated by the State of New Jersey, Department of Human Services, Division of Youth and Family Services as dictated in the Manual of Requirements For Child Care, page 35 paragraph (b).
Responsibilities
• Assisting the Director and Head Teacher in planning and implementing the daily program.
• Assisting in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed material and supplies.
• Supervising the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.
• Helping with general housekeeping tasks.
• Maintaining professional attitudes and loyalty to the school at all times.
• Treating all children with dignity and respect.
• Assisting the Director and Head Teachers in other appropriate ways as deemed necessary.
• Attending staff meeting and programs designed to improve skills and knowledge.
• After an offer of employment is made, produce a current physical examination by a physician and at least annually thereafter, with a tuberculin test or chest x-ray.
• Have approved State central clearance form for child abuse and maltreatment.
• Physical constraints required include the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, the ability to see and read newsprint, with or without corrective lenses, to speak and be understood under normal circumstances, to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, and the use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job, including the evacuation of the building during emergencies.
• Demonstrate ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved; able to respond immediately to any emergency situation.
• Documentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.
• Present, within fourteen days of employment, a certificate demonstrating an approved criminal record check if required by state law
