Auburn, MA (Grassroots Newswire)-- Justine Gaumond and Misha Coolbaugh, teachers at The Goddard School® located at 494 Washington Street in Auburn, have been honored with Goddard Systems, Inc.’s (GSI) “Teacher of the Year Award,” which was announced during national Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6th - 10th). For the 7th consecutive year, The Goddard School located in Auburn has had a teacher nationally recognized with this honor. This year, for the first time, it is a team of teachers being recognized.

GSI, franchisor of The Goddard School, presented its seventh annual “Teacher of the Year Award” to five Goddard School early childhood educators from across the United States, in recognition of their exemplary work. Chosen from more than 8,000 Goddard School teachers, these teachers are credited with initiating projects that benefit their classroom, school and/or community on an ongoing basis.

“For 25 years, The Goddard School has been a trusted name among parents and families. Our play-based approach is grounded in research on how children learn best: children experience the deepest, most genuine learning when they are having fun,” says Joe Schumacher, CEO of GSI. “For seven consecutive years, Sheri and Matt Flandreau have been recognized for employing National Teachers of the Year in their school. They hire talented, highly-trained faculty and provide support and guidance through ongoing professional development and accredited training through Goddard Systems University. Goddard Systems University is a proprietary educational program available only to Goddard School faculties and staffs and is designed to assist Goddard School faculties in staying abreast of the latest developments in early childhood education and care through continuing education.”

Gaumond and Coolbaugh, co-lead toddler teachers, developed Multicultural Visitors Day to teach the children in their classroom how to value, respect and embrace diversity. Family members, special visitors and students from local college groups, including Multicultural Student Organization and Multicultural Peer Educators visit the entire school to share their personal cultures through dance, music, culinary experiences, language, sports and traditional clothing.

“Justine and Misha are extremely creative and talented teachers,” said Matt and Sheri Flandreau, on-site owners of The Goddard School located in Auburn. “Together, they transform the classroom into a wonderfully stimulating environment to help engage the children in the learning process. They have made a significant impact on each of the children, we couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Dr. Craig Bach, VP of Education for GSI adds, “Making learning fun is at the core of The Goddard School program. Through the Multicultural Visitors Day program, Justine and Misha use proven, play-based methods to nurture healthy development and encourage a lifelong love of learning.”

GSI received numerous nominations from throughout the country for the “Teacher of the Year Award” from Goddard School Owners and Educational Directors as well as recommendations from parents, peers, and in some cases even children. In addition to the recognition, the teachers receive a cash prize and a gift package from GSI.

The Goddard School offers a year-round program for children from six weeks to six years old, and focuses on building a strong and balanced foundation of emotional, social, cognitive, and physical skills for each child. Children are encouraged to develop at their own pace in a warm environment supported by a team of dedicated teachers.

“Justine and Misha represent two of our best resources in early childhood education. GSI is proud of their accomplishments and look forward to many successful years ahead,” says Sue Adair, Director of Education for GSI. “Each year, the caliber of the submitted nominees grows more robust and we are thrilled to honor these outstanding educators.”
