CONGRATULATIONS, MS. CHERYL!
We are proud to announce that our very own Ms. Cheryl has won a National Award, The Goddard School Teacher of the Year award! Cheryl was nominated by fellow teachers, the owners of The Goddard School located in Sparks and parents in recognition of the amazing music program she runs on top of being a top-notch toddler teacher. Way to go, Ms. Cheryl!
The Goddard School FLEXTM Learning Program!
We are pleased to offer a variety of core curriculum resources and enrichment programs at The Goddard School located in Sparks. We offer Yoga, Music, World Cultures, Rock-n-Tots (dance exploration), Introduction to Spanish, Sign Language, KidScientific (hands-on science) and Fitness programs that are incorporated into the children's daily lessons.
Even the youngest children benefit from relaxing and healthful yoga activities included in the daily curriculum. Children have fun while they increase their flexibility and develop body control.
Their bodies are further challenged with our daily fitness program and Rock-n-Tots dance exploration. Children work on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and basic sports and dance skills.
Our KidScientific program exposes children to a wide range of science concepts through hands-on experiments and activities.
Our Pre-K children explore foreign and exotic lands through our World Cultures program. We begin with a journey to Europe, then continue around the globe.
Read on for information on our Sign Language, Spanish and Music programs!
SIGN LANGUAGE & SPANISH
We are pleased to offer Sign Language and Spanish to the children as part of the daily curriculum. Our youngest children will work on mastering signs to express their needs and wants to supplement their verbal communication. Our older children will explore the language through theme related words and common classroom phrases.
MUSIC CLASS WITH MS. CHERYL
Tuesday is a special day at The Goddard School located in Sparks! Miss Cheryl teaches Music each Tuesday morning to children of all ages, even infants! Children will learn a wide variety of musical concepts including rhythm and tempo, note value, creative movement and, of course, singing! We have a great selection of musical instruments including a piano, shakers, bells, wood blocks, drums and more.
YOGA CLASS WITH MS. AMY
Every other Thursday. Ms. Amy leads children in a yoga lesson. The yoga lessons build strength and flexibility, promote relaxation and build cognitive skills.
ROCK 'N TOTS DANCE CLASS WITH MS. SARA
Ms. Sara visits classrooms every other week to introduce dance concepts to our children. The Rock 'n Tots dance class improves balance, body control and strength, builds cognitive skills as children follow instructions and encourages participation in a fun group activity.
REBOUNDERS FITNESS CLASS
We are pleased to offer Rebounders Fitness Class to our pre-toddlers, toddlers and preschoolers at no additional cost to you! An instructor from Rebounders Gymnastics Center visits our School, supplementing our equipment to provide challenging obstacle courses and skill-based activities.
ANYTIME DRAMA
Drama activities help build expressive language skills and offer a way for children to work through their feelings and experiences. We are pleased to now offer a drama program for our children. ANYTIME DRAMA, a preschool drama curriculum, is designed to engage young children in expressive, imaginative activities and fun, interactive exercises.
IN-HOUSE LIBRARY
We've expanded our in-house library thanks to an annual grant from the State of Maryland. Each year the grant covers the cost of hundreds of theme-related books that the teachers use in their daily lessons. If you have books that you don't need anymore, we are happy to accept them! We encourage you to bring in your gently used children's books and add to the rich learning environment.
PAPER, TONER AND INK CARTRIDGE RECYCLING
We now have a paper-only dumpster behind the school for community use. By recycling your paper goods, you are helping the environment and your children at the same time. Please feel free to drop all of your paper recycling into the appropriate dumpster (the colorful dumpster marked 'The Paper Retriever'). Don't let all of that paper pile up in your garage anymore! All proceeds go directly to the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) fund. We also recycle all of your old toner cartridges, cell phones and ink cartridges. Please feel free to drop them by the office. All proceeds go to the PTO to help your children.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
At The Goddard School® located in Sparks, we believe in the importance of teaching our children how they can assist those in our community that are less fortunate. We have a variety of activities throughout the year that allow the children to actively support their community.
In the fall, families can send in pajamas for our Casey Cares pajama drive. Families are encouraged to participate in the 100 Yard Pajama Run!
During the holiday season, the PTO organizes the Adopt-A-Family program. Each year, the generous donations from our Goddard families provides toys, clothing and grocery gift cards for two or three local families to make their holidays a little brighter.
Next is the Souper-Bowl soup drive. Children bring in canned soups to donate to a nearby food bank.
Spring brings the annual Hop-A-Thon where children don bunny ears and count their hops. We select a local charity as the beneficiary each year.
