Letter Sounds & Dramatic Play
During Circle time in the morning and afternoon the children will review the letter sounds. The children will then look at John James Audubon's painting, "Bird: American Flamingo," and discuss the colors & natural environment seen in the image. When they are on the playground they will then pretend to be flamingos.

Painting Like Michelangelo
The children will paint under the tables like Michelangelo did at the Sistine Chapel. They will then read a poem called "My Art Museum." The yoga pose "Savasana" will be introduced during yoga time.

Identify Letters in the Spring
We will work in small groups and identify the lower case letters "a" through "z" and then visit the gymnasium to play scooter hockey. After singing "Spring Time" on the school's theater stage, we will return to the classroom to read Museum by Susan Canizares.

Music & Computer Time
After we discuss rhythm, we will have fun with our musical instruments while singing "A Museum Where You Can See You." We will then create sculptures using Model Magic. Our class will then visit the Computer Lab and use our math software. Our new yoga pose that will be introduced today will be "Star."

The Art of Eric Carle
We will read The Art of Eric Carle by Eric Carle and then produce our own art on the computer. During art time, we will paint flower pots that will be used for our science activity. During science time, we will talk about the stages of plant growth and what they need to grow. We will then plant our own seeds in rich soil, give them water and place them in the sunlight to grow.

Handwriting & Yoga
We will enjoy using the garden tools and dress up clothes that were added to the dramatic play center. A new yoga pose, "Happy Feet," will be added to our yoga time. We will work on our fine motor skills when we practice writing our names in the potting soil.

Math & Computers
We will water our plants that we planted and discuss how they have changed. We will play the ladybug matching game during math time. We will add live ladybugs and magnifying glasses to our Science Center, so we can explore with a friend during center time. We will work in small groups with the teacher and practice our letter sounds. We will work on our keyboarding skills in the Computer Lab.

We will make ABC math patterns using the different colored flowers. We will paint using real daffodils and dance to "Spring is Here." New Spanish words will be introduced and practiced during conversational speech throughout the day.

We will read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, and then practice our yoga pose of the day, "Butterfly." Real caterpillars will be introduced to the Science Center for us to view. During our physical fitness time in the gymnasium, we will take turns climbing the rock climbing wall.

Our guest visitor will bring their pet rabbit for us to observe. We will then pretend to be different spring animals on the playground. During math time, we will make a bar graph showing the favorite spring animals of our class.

We will count chickens in Spanish during the "Ten Fluffy Chickens" finger play. We will continue reviewing these words and counting when we add balls to the parachute on the playground.

We will explore with feathers in the sensory table and then paint with feathers. We will make ABBA math patterns with the different colored feathers. After reading "Birds Flying South," we will discuss why birds relocate due to temperature and we will list different types of birds.

We will read A Picnic with Monet by Julie Merberg and then re-create Monet's "Water Lilies" using paint and coffee filters. We will add Water Lilies to the sensory table and see if we can get the frogs to balance on them and then hop from one to another.

We will create windsocks using oatmeal cans and streamers after we read Wind by Susan Canizares. We will practice writing the numbers 1-20 during handwriting time. We will work on shape recognition when we are in the computer lab.

Science Cloud Experiment
After reading The Little Cloud by Eric Carle we will talk about the different types of clouds. During Science time we will work in small groups with a teacher and perform an experiment with cotton balls, water and an eye dropper to show how clouds produce rain. We will enhance our computer skills by using the paint program in the computer lab to draw and paint clouds in the sky.

After reading Come on Rain by Karen Hesse, we will discuss things you might use to keep you dry. While in the gymnasium we will do rain dance exercises. When we return to the classroom, we will measure the different liquids during science time. When we go outside for recess we will learn about some of the basic rules of "soccer."

Spanish & Storm Experiments
For Music & Movement we will listen to a demonstration of how thunder is made. We will learn that it is just a noise made by air and then we will stomp around on the carpet to make sounds like thunder. We will watch an experiment to see how lightning by counting how many times the balloon has to be rubbed on the carpet before the light bulb would work. We will review our monthly Spanish words.

Rainbow Parade & Prisms
We will study rainbows by reading books and looking at prisms. We will learn about rhythm and beat while using different instruments and moving to the song "Rainbow Parade." Our class will have a parade with our instruments in the hallway for our friends throughout the school to see. When we return to the classroom we will create our own rainbows using different materials and paint.

We will read A is for Artist by Ella Doran and then we will make a list on the white board of all the things we use on our classroom for art. During Creative Art time we will explore with crayons and water color paint to learn about the crayon resist process. During our Computer Lab time we will be able to select different items from the "Paint Program's" tool bar to create pictures.

We will discuss what a sculptor makes and then use clay to sculpt various shapes at the art table. We will review what sounds the letter "J" makes and then make a list of words that begin with the letter "J." After practicing our yoga poses we will learn the words and movements to the song "Jump on the Rainbow." We will explore in the sensory table with paint brushes, colored water, & bubbles.

Each of us will complete the thought, "When I think of spring, I think of..." and illustrate our answer. We will work on our social skills while on the playground and review our table manners during lunch time. We will measure the height of our plants and add the info to the data sheet. We will then make a class bar graph that shows how the amount of water affected the height of the plants.

Addition and Subtraction
We will practice our adding and subtracting by using the math puzzles in the morning. We will read the book An Extraordinary Egg by Leo Lionni and discussed the types of animals that hatch from eggs. During creative art time we will use clay at the art table to sculpt different shapes such as birds, nests or even little eggs. While outside on the playground we will lift the parachute up.
