The children will learn a new song,

There's a wide eye owl (make binoculars with hands on eyes)
With a pointed nose (point to nose)
Two pointed ears (grab ears)
And claws for toes (wiggle fingers and point to toes)
He lives way up in the tree (point up to the ceiling)
And when he looks at you (point)
He flaps his wings (flap arms like wings)
And says Who....Whooo! (continue flapping)

Forest Collages

The children will take a nature walk collect leaves, flowers, pebbles, pine cones, pine needles, etc.  they will then glue the items on a tree shape made from tag board with these materials.

    The teacher will provide pictures of a bird and make a nest. The teacher will write a different number on each bird, then let the children place the correct number of eggs (corresponding numbers) into the birds nest.

    The class will make an elephant by painting and decorating a box, cutting out a mouth hole and throwing peanuts (beanbags) into the elephants mouth to feed the elephant.

    The teachers will set up an observatory next to a window in the classrooms. the teachers will place binoculars along with bird, insect, and animal books next to the window. This way the children can view real birds. See if you can see any of the animals that they have at the zoo!

    Several plastic ocean creatures will be placed under a sheet as each child takes a turn "diving" under the "water" (sheet) to retrieve an ocean creature. When they have their creature, they will tell the class what it is.

    The class will unwind a long rope (about 100 feet) to see just how long a blue whale is. Then the children will lay head to feet to measure it out in body length just how many of their lengths it would take to make a blue whale!
