I Spy!

I Spy!

Using their keen sense of sight the children will play a game of I Spy.  We will practice using descriptive words and taking turns.  As play continues we can add other senses into the clues, such as I spy something soft or I spy something sweet.

Feely Box

The children will use their sense of touch to identify different food items in the feely box without looking. Some of the items might include cooked noodles, an apple, orange slices, rice or peas, to name a few.  Which items would they like to taste?

Compare and Contrast

Compare and Contrast

The children will try several cooked and uncooked vegetables.  They will then discuss the differences  in the way they look, feel, smell, sound and taste.  The teachers will graph whether the children prefer each vegetable cooked or uncooked.

Today our School will form a school-wide "Friendship Circle" for a sing-along and will celebrate what friendship means through a variety of activities.

Play Along Day

Today our younger and older children will engage in team building activities together to promote sharing. The "big kids" will have the opportunity to help the "little kids" to complete various activities such as; puzzles, crafts and playing games.  At the conclusion of this mentor time the children will “shake their sillies out” together to The Goddard School Play Along Song.

Goddard Good Deed Day

Goddard Good Deed Day

Today our children will show the value of goodwill by supporting a local cause though a Goddard Good Deed.  After a week long safety curriculum geared toward learning valuable riding-toy safety lessons the children will participate in a St. Jude Trike-A-Thon.  The money raised will go toward the treatment, research and prevention of diseases in children.

Goddard Cares Day

Today our School will collect hand-written and/or decorated postcards from our families.  These postcards will be distributed to service men and women stationed overseas. Goddard Schools have a collective goal of 25,000 postcards to send to U.S. military abroad.

Community Heroes Day

Today our School has invited our local Police Department to visit with their K-9 unit.  The Police Officers will demonstrate how the K-9 dogs help the Police Officers to protect and serve our community.

Goddard Community Games Day!

Today from 10:00am - 12:00pm our School will host an event for our children, families and members of our community.  All are welcome to join us for any or all of our activities.  Some activities will be an Anti-Bullying program by Karate Dojo, Music & Movement by All That Dance, Balloon Fun by Kool Breeze, a school wide scavenger hunt, rope wrangling, parachute games, crafts and much more.

Today we will be celebrating friendship during our breakfast Valentine's Day Party at 10:00am.  We will play "What would you Say?, What would you Do?" from the Goddard Guide to Getting Along to help instill the importance of courtesy and respect in friendship.

Happy Valentine's Day!

We will celebrate Valentine's Day with a breakfast party at 10:00am. Playing a game of "Pass the Heart" during our party will help to develop our hand-eye coordination and listening skills. Then we will express our creativity using paper, doilies, stickers, hearts and glue to create our own Valentine's Day cards.

Scented Cool Whip Painting

Scented Cool Whip Painting

After dividing cool whip up into several bowls we will add a different flavoring, such as banana or peppermint, to each bowl.  The children will observe how the cool whip changes color.  Of course we will smell and taste it too!  We will then paint a picture with it.

Henri Matisse

After looking at the work of Henri Matisse, the children will create their own masterpiece.  Using the same techniques Matisse used, they will cut and rip paper to be used in their own paper cutout design.  They will use glue to arrange their cutouts on paper. The children will be encourage to title and sign their art work.

Dino Adventures Puppet Show

T-Rex the Turtle escapes his home at the Garden State Discovery Museum to lead the children on a journey uncovering the world of Dinosaurs! This modern day reptile longs to stomp and roar with his prehistoric ancestors and tells an interactive story of these awesome creatures of long ago. Together with Haddy the Hadrosaurus they’ll take us on an incredible Jurassic adventure…no bones about it!

Dinosaur Yoga

We will bring new excitement to our Yoga poses by giving them dinosaur names today.   A few examples are:  Dinosaur Breathing - inhale through the nose and exhale with a roar!, Dinosaur Nest - children will become dinosaur eggs huddled together in child's pose, Pterodactyl  - using your arms as wings; raise your wings as you inhale and lower them as you exhale.

Pre-K Nursery Rhyme Show

Our Pre-K children will perform in a Nursery Rhyme Show. Performing nursery rhymes gives children the practice and confidence to speak in front of an audience. The rhythms present in nursery rhymes help children to remember the words, exercising their auditory memory skills. Learning the rhymes also conveys that sounds make up words and that words are fun which will help in their future reading.

Moon Rock Toss

We will be enhancing our gross motor skills as well as our hand-eye coordination while trying to toss our Moon Rocks back onto the moon.

We will transform our dramatic play area into a space shuttle using card board boxes, paint, markers and stickers.  We will then pretend to be astronauts flying through space.

Star Games

Star Games

We will be enhancing our cognitive skills as we play several games using stars.  We will sequence stars from smallest to largest, sort stars by size or color and match stars with the same number or picture on them.  "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" will be the song of the day.  We will also learn the sign and Spanish word for "star".

There's No Place Like Space
