COME SEE WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER!
At The Goddard School® located in Hanover, Maryland, we are excited to offer numerous exciting resources for our children! Our teachers are trained and knowledgeable about each resource and include them in their lessons every day!
Language Arts
Scholastic’s Building Language for Literacy™ program equips young children with the critical language and literacy skills, and experiences, they need to build the foundation for success in reading. It is built upon children’s home and community experiences to create meaningful connections. Photographic PlaceBooks™ puppets, music, and poetry feature language-loving characters who focus on the fundamentals of literacy, including oral language, phonological awareness, letter knowledge and concepts in print.
Second Languages
Spanish - The Explorer program introduces children to the Spanish language and culture. With hundreds of games, songs and activities, the program provides hours of learning and fun. Numerous studies have concluded that foreign language learning is extremely beneficial for children. In fact, foreign language study has been shown to make talking and listening more interesting in both languages.
Sign Language - The Sign Language program, developed by Time to Sign®, Inc., introduces children to American Sign Language, a manual form of communication where sign mimics experiences with ideas or objects. Children, even infants, learn to sign through the use of songs, games, stories and play. Recent findings indicate that a bilingual approach with hearing children enhances literacy skills and activates brain growth and development. Sign has also been shown to reduce conflict, facilitate an understanding of human emotions, and increase children’s confidence and self-esteem.
Fitness
B.A.S.E. - Goddard's fitness program developed by SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids), has been specifically designed and equipped for preschool children with four curricular goals that address their physical fitness: B=Balance, A=Agility, S=Strength and E=Endurance.
Yoga - Teachers use the Yoga School guidelines to enhance cross-curricular learning through motor skills, science, math, language arts and social skills. By using nature, animals, and a little imagination, young learners gain improvements in focus, balance, creativity, flexibility, body awareness and control.
Manners
The innovative Goddard Guide to Getting Along™ program fosters acquisition of four essential skills: friendship, compassion, cooperation and kindness. The program incorporates a variety of activities that inspire thoughtful discussion; provide practice on an individual and group level; and include class-wide, school-wide and community-wide opportunities for skill building at an age-appropriate level, even as young as 18 months. Lessons on Stranger Danger are also covered and teach children to recognize unsafe situations, react and respond appropriately, and differentiate between situations in which personal safety is more important than using good manners.
Music Appreciation
Studies have shown that music stimulates children’s brains while helping them to express their feelings, investigate rhythm and explore other cultures. The Music Preludes program, by Musically Yours, Inc., allows children to obtain musical literacy through innovative, fun activities and active participation. The goal of the program is to provide children with enriching experiences through which they can achieve musical literacy according to individual awareness.
Nutrition
In Healthy Kids Nutrition program, children learn to make healthy food choices, identify various foods, investigate food ethnicity. Children who are introduced to healthy eating at an early age are more likely to choose good nutrition and fitness choices.
World Cultures
Through this curriculum, children embark on six "voyages" where they explore the inhabited continents of the world: North America, Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and Oceania. Each voyage expands on the history, geography, culture, language, art, and symbols of a region. Through age appropriate activities, World Cultures promotes awareness and understanding in a culturally diverse world, community and school.
Math
The Newbridge math program lays the foundation for math fluency and instills the test-related language of math in young minds through a shared learning and math readiness program. Different theme units teach key math concepts and reinforce the national Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards. The program introduces children to: Counting; logical thinking and predicting; comparing, classifying, and problem solving; coins, bills, and money related vocabulary; measurement tools; sorting; grouping and place value concepts; spatial relations concepts; weight, length and capacity.
Science
KidScientific introduces children to the natural world around them and the wonders of science. The program guides children through an age-appropriate scientific method and unravels mysteries through problem-solving activities in areas such as: Life Science-Plants, Animals, Health and the Human Body; Earth Science-Shadows, Weather, Rocks, Bodies of Water and the Environment; Physical Science-How things work, Magnets, Light, Reflections and Motion.
