Traffic Jam
Today we will practice identifying signs and symbols. We will create designated "roads" within our classroom for transportation from center to center. We will identify signs for stop, go, slow and yield. As part of our Spanish curriculum we will learn the Spanish words for "stop," "go" and "slow." We will also learn the sign language signs. We will play "Red Light, Green Light" outside!

Car, Truck and Boat Math
We will create complex patterns using images of buses, cars and trucks. We will introduce addition and subtraction concepts as we add items to our busy road. We will create pictures using a variety of shapes paired with images of cars, trucks, trains and boats.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Today we are reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Emma Chichester Clark. In the math center we will practice sequencing by size when we put bears, porridge, chairs and beds in order from largest to smallest. As part of our Music and Movement curriculum we will learn the lyrics and ASL signs to "The Bear Went Over the Mountain." Finally, we will have "A Goldilocks Obstacle Course" outside.

The Three Little Pigs

The Three Little Pigs
We will start our day by reading The Three Little Pigs by Barry Moser. During our math activity we will make patterns using images of pigs and a wolf. We will practice adding and subtracting "pigs" and "wolves" to our patterns to change the sum total. We will build houses out of straw, toothpicks and blocks to determine what house is the strongest. Join us for a traditional fairy tale and fun!

Peter Pan
Today we are reading about Peter Pan. We will talk about what it would be like to fly like Peter Pan. Using our imaginations we will discuss where we would like to visit if we could fly. During circle time we will talk about the different characters from Peter Pan and graph our favorites. We will interpret the graph data by determining which character was most and least popular.

The Ugly Duckling
Today we will continue our literature theme while reading The Ugly Duckling by Sebastien Braun. We will discuss the story as a class and incorporate a friendship curriculum as we talk about how to treat one another. We will learn facts about ducks and swans. For a language activity we will create a list of words that rhyme with "duck" and practice writing them at the writing center.

Jack and the Beanstalk
Today we are reading the classic fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk as retold by Steven Kellogg. After reading the story we will reconstruct the time line of events using images from the story. At the writing center we will create our own class fairytale. Finally, in the science center we will plant our own beans and chart their growth throughout the week - maybe we will have our own beanstalk!

The Three Billy Goats Gruff
We are reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Paul Galdone. In home center, we will practice reenacting the story events as "goats" cross the bridge. At the math center, we will sort goats by similarities and differences. We will learn the ASL sign and Spanish term for "goat." We will also continue to practice our days of the week and months of the year in English, Spanish and ASL sign.

The Pied Piper
Today we are reading The Pied Piper by Rochelle Larken. In the math center we will put bags of gold in order from largest to smallest, then heaviest the lightest and tallest to shortest. At the Science Center we will determine if "gold" sinks or floats. We will record our predictions, conduct our experiment and discuss the results to determine if our hypothesis was correct.

We will choose a books by our favorite author this week. Today we will talk about Dr. Seuss. We will read The Cat in the Hat and Oh, the Places You'll Go. We will make up our own silly nonsense words for rhyming. At the art center we will create our own Dr. Seuss characters. In home center we will pretend to help care for Thing 1 and Thing 2!

We are reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. On the felt board we will recreate the story based on the order Brown Bear saw the animals. At the Science Center we will match images of animals to the images of their habitat. Join us as we read more interactive stories by Bill Martin, Jr.

Today we will read Little Red Riding Hood by Candice Ransom. In Dramatic Play, we will practice our language and literacy skills as we act out the story with new and exciting props. This activity will help develop cognitive skills by assigning symbolic meaning to people and things. After reading the story we will practice identifying story elements such as characters and settings.

We are using Ten Apples up on Top by Dr. Seuss to help us understand the concept of matching numbers to the correct number of items. Our younger classrooms will practice counting up to ten in English and in Spanish. We will sort different items based their defining characteristics.
